  3. 03. How we quote

Microcement is a bespoke, hand-applied finish — typically 8–12 coats applied personally by a trained applicator over 5–7 days on site, using the full CimentArt system top to bottom. It is priced per project, not by day rate and not off a fixed price list.

What shapes the figure

  • Substrate condition — sound, level substrates need less preparation than rough or wet ones.
  • Scope — a single feature, a full room, a whole floor or a worktop are very different jobs.
  • Geometry & detail — corners, niches, bullnose edges and returns add hand time.
  • Wet rooms & bathrooms — tanking and the Aqua sealer system add specification.
  • Colour — standard CimentArt tones are quicker than custom Pantone or RAL matches.
  • Access & programme — difficult access, tight programmes or out-of-hours work all move the number.

What you should never pay for

Single-component sealers. Skipped primer. Self-trained installers without manufacturer certification. Quotes that don't itemise the system.

How we quote

Every Cornwall Microcement project receives a fixed, written quotation following a free site visit — we measure, take moisture readings and discuss substrate before we put a number on paper. Book a free site visit →

Frequently asked questions

Why does microcement cost more than tiles?+
Microcement is a hand-applied craft — typically 8–12 coats by a single trained applicator over 5–7 days. The comparison isn't with tile material; it's with the total installed cost of large-format porcelain done well.
Is there a minimum project size?+
We have a small mobilisation minimum for very small projects (single splashback, etc). Most projects exceed this comfortably. We'll always be straight about it on the site visit.
Are there cheaper microcement systems?+
Yes, and we don't use them. Single-component sealers and budget polymers are what fail in two years.
Does the colour change the price?+
Marginally. Custom blends or multi-tone wash finishes add a half-day of sampling and mixing.
