How long does microcement last? A UK durability guide
With correct installation and a 2K polyurethane sealer, microcement lasts 20+ years. Here's what affects lifespan, what wears first, and how to extend it.

The honest answer to "how long does it last?" depends almost entirely on the installer. The product, properly applied, will outlast most kitchens it's installed into.
What ages, what doesn't
The microcement body — pigmented cement, polymer, aggregate — is essentially permanent. It doesn't shrink, doesn't yellow, doesn't delaminate. What ages is the sealer on top.
Realistic timelines
- Walls and splashbacks: sealer typically lasts the life of the room.
- Bathroom floors: 10–15 years before a refresh.
- Kitchen worktops: 8–10 years with daily use.
- Main-traffic floors: 8–12 years; touch-ups in high-wear lines sooner.
What kills microcement early
Three things, all installer-controlled: skipped primer, missing reinforcement mesh, or the wrong sealer for the room. None of these are visible on day one — they show up at year two. This is why an approved CimentArt applicator matters.
Renewing the sealer
A re-seal is a single day's work. The surface is lightly abraded, cleaned, and two fresh coats of 2K PU sealer are applied. No demolition, no dust sheets across the house, no skip. Get in touch if your microcement is approaching its decade mark.
